Day five – Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Gander Outreach Clinic

Early in the day, the Exceptional Care Odyssey travelled to the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, along with François Fassier, M.D. and hospital patients and their families. The Gander Outreach Clinic was created in 2004 and is celebrating its 10th anniversary and a longstanding collaboration with James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre. As Shriners Hospitals for Children-Canada treats children from across the country, Outreach Clinics allow seeing children in their own communities for initial assessment or follow-up care. This minimizes the stress on the family as well as the cost of transport. During an Outreach Clinic it is the orthopedic surgeon as well as a nurse from Canada Shriners Hospital who travel to the patients. This allows to see more patients locally. Altogether, there are 210 Newfoundland children currently followed at Shriners Hospitals for Children.
