Dipping of the tires in the Atlantic Ocean:
The first order of business upon arrival in St-John was the official dipping of the back tires of the FezMobile into the Atlantic Ocean. The FezMobile is a Ford Explorer decorated to symbolize the Shriners Fez, which itself is a beacon of hope for all children treated at Shriners Hospitals for Children. The FezMobile will travel across the continent until mid-July, raising awareness in communities along its way, all the way to Victoria, BC where it will make it to the Pacific Ocean.
NTV's Sharon Snow was on hand to share the news with their viewers. Later that day the following report ran:
Mazol Shriners Wayne Mayo and Roger Tinkham then took the FezMobile to iconic locations in St. John's including Signal Hill, Cabot Tower & Quidi Vidi.
Later in the day, the St. John's Shrine Club organized a meet and greet where guests had the opportunity to see the FezMobile, buy bumper stickers as well as learn more about the specialty orthopedic care offered by the Hospital. Patient Jack Hart and his parents were present and shared their story. Jack was diagnosed with perthes, a condition that affects the bone at the hip joint and that can be extremely painful. With surgical treatment as well as rehabilitation, today, Jack is back to active, playing street and ice hockey as well as baseball.
