What does Shriners Hospitals for Children® stand for?

The mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children is to:

  • Provide the highest-quality care to children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries and other special health care needs within a compassionate, family-centered and collaborative care environment.

  • Support the education of physicians and other health care professionals.

  • Conduct research to discover new knowledge that improves the quality of care and quality of life of children and families.

This mission is carried out without regard to race, colour, creed, gender, sect, disability, national origin or the ability of a patient or family to pay.

It’s really happening…. Our new hospital is taking shape!

It is with tremendous humility and pride that I undertake my two-year tenure as Chairman of the Board of Canada’s Shriners Hospital. I can’t imagine a more vibrant time to hold such a prestigious position. The next few years will be filled with excitement and anticipation as we prepare for our transition into our beautiful state-of-the-art facility.

For many years, my profession has allowed me to care for children with orthopedic needs, where I have had the honor of working with the talented orthopedic staff of Shriners Hospitals for Children. I would never have thought it possible that I would one day find myself at the helm of such an important and distinguished organization. This “Chairmanship” is the one role that will define my most accomplished professional achievement.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and in my personal name, please accept our commitment and assurance that every member of the Shriners Fraternity will dedicate their time and energy, ensuring every child entering our doors will have the best care. We are committed to excellence and will continue to ensure our hospital is a reflection of that commitment.

Today, with the solid backing of the Shriners community and your generous support for the “Exceptional Care for Exceptional Kids” campaign, the hospital is eagerly setting its sights on the future in its new facilities on the Glen Campus.
